Guide
Reading baccarat road maps
Quick Summary
- Road maps are scoreboards that record past baccarat results in grids of coloured marks.
- The main roads are the bead plate, big road and three derived roads.
- They are a record, not a forecast: each hand is independent.
- Use them for fun and orientation, never as a reason to raise stakes.
Sit at a live baccarat table and you will see grids of red and blue circles beside the video. Those are road maps. Players treat them as a guide to what comes next; in truth they are a tidy way to record what already happened. This guide explains how to read the main roads, and why they cannot beat the maths of the game.
What road maps record
Each hand of baccarat ends in one of three outcomes: Banker wins, Player wins, or a tie. A road map turns that sequence into a picture. Over a shoe of cards, you get a pattern of streaks and switches that is easy to scan.
The idea is to help you see trends at a glance. Players call a long run "dragon" and an alternating run "ping-pong". Those names are folklore; the displays themselves are just a log. If you are new to the game, start with our baccarat rules and bets page.
The main roads
Tables show several roads, usually side by side. Colours and layouts vary a little by studio, so check the legend on screen.
| Road | What it shows | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Bead plate | Every hand in order, one circle per result | Read top to bottom, left to right; the simplest record |
| Big road | Streaks of the same winner stacked in columns | A new column starts when the winner changes |
| Big eye boy | Derived road comparing the pattern with earlier columns | Red marks suggest repeating patterns, blue suggest breaks |
| Small road | Derived road comparing with columns further back | Same idea as big eye boy, a longer comparison |
| Cockroach pig | Derived road with the longest comparison | Used by players who chase pattern signals |
Why roads do not predict
Each hand is dealt from a shoe where earlier cards affect later ones only slightly, and the effect is far too small to read from a scoreboard. A streak of five Banker wins does not make Player "due". The coloured marks look like a signal, but they simply restate past results in different shapes. Compare this with the myth of "hot" and "cold" slots in how RNG works.
Derived roads feel especially convincing because they look like analysis. They are not. They apply a fixed rule to the same data and repackage it. No road changes the pricing of the bets, and the house edge stays the same whichever pattern you follow.
Using roads sensibly
If you enjoy roads, use them as a way to make the game feel structured, not as an edge. Decide your stake before the hand and keep it steady rather than adjusting it according to the board.
Pick bets by understanding their payouts, not by what the road suggests. The tie and side bets pay more, and also cost more. Read the payout table on the game screen. Protect your budget with bankroll management.
- Treat roads as a record, not a forecast.
- Never raise stakes to chase a "pattern".
- Ignore anyone selling pattern systems or signals.
- Stop at your time or loss limit regardless of the board.
Other table games with scoreboards
Scoreboards are not unique to baccarat. Sic bo and roulette tables also show recent results, and Dragon Tiger uses similar road displays. The same warning applies: past results do not shape the next one. Check availability and rules for each table in the live casino hub.
Three steps
Read a road map in 3 steps
- 1Start with the bead plate
Scan the circles in order to see the raw sequence of Banker, Player and tie results.
- 2Follow the big road
Note how winners group into streaks and where the winner switches.
- 3Treat it as history
Choose your stake from your budget, not from the pattern, and keep it steady.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can road maps predict the next hand?
No. They record what has happened. Each hand is effectively independent, and no pattern on the board changes the probabilities of the next outcome.
What colours do road maps use?
Commonly red for Banker, blue for Player and green for ties, but studios differ. Check the legend on the table screen before reading the roads.
What is a dragon in baccarat?
It is slang for a long streak of the same winner. Players name streaks, but a dragon does not make a longer streak more or less likely.
Do pros use roads to win?
Whatever people claim, no road gives an edge. The house edge is set by the bet type and payouts, not by the pattern on the board.
